4 Ways To Keep Motivated In A Rough Job Market

The rate of unemployment is steadily on the rise in the United States. While Time Magazine has stated that the recession is over, it is hard for the average person to believe that it is over when the signs all point to no. That doesn’t mean that the recession isn’t indeed over, it just means that we can’t actually see it yet. If you are currently in a tough situation and need to provide for your family, you don’t really care about whether or not the recession is over; you just want to find a job. With that in mind, the following are four ways to keep yourself going to help get you a job in this tough market.

#1 – Start Networking

The first thing that you need to do is start networking. There are plenty of job forums on the internet, such as the Monster Message Boards, where job seekers are able to connect with one another. This communication and networking with your peers is all too important in this tough job market and unsure economy. Ask others that you meet the kinds of steps they are taking to position themselves for success. Asking for suggestions on how to get that next interview and simply expressing your feelings and venting your anger about the state of the economy is important. In addition, the camaraderie that comes from networking with your peers should also encourage you.

#2 – Be Positive

Even though the future may seem bleak, there are plenty of reasons to think positively in this tough economy. One of the best attitudes you can take with you is a positive one. Taking a positive approach and thinking to yourself that your next application may result in a hire or the next interview you go on may just be the job you were looking for is crucial to staying focused.

#3 – Get Your Resume Out There

Another step that you can do to keep yourself motivated and stay focused on achieving employment in this tough economy is to constantly have your resume in front of the right people. Go to your local job centers and search for job openings. Search Craigslist and other employment websites for employers posting job opportunities. Keep buying local newspapers for the classified job ads. If you apply to every single job opening that you see which you are qualified for then you may start seeing some results as they come.

#4 – Remember That This Too Shall Pass

Finally, realize that the economic downturn and the sudden loss of jobs won’t last. Even though it’s hard to stay focused in a time where thousands of jobs are lost per month, the fact of the matter is that every bad month that goes by is one month closer to a turnaround for the economy and job market. All countries have periods of job loss and unemployment, but it always bounces back as time permits.

These are just a few tips that are sure to help you find a job and keep you motivated while you are doing so. The most important thing to keep in mind is your mindset. Your mindset will have an effect on your success and your happiness. So be positive, stay motivated, and get ready to start your new job.

Jobs That Require Travel

In case you have always pictured yourself as a person who wants to travel all around the globe, then, the jobs that require travel conditions could seem a dream come true. Even if business is the focus of most trips, you still get some time to sight-see and experience a little bit of the foreign country atmosphere.

Sales positions are usually the most common jobs that require travel making as they depend on the visits paid to potential clients in the same geographical area, somewhere else in the country or abroad. A practice implemented by many companies nowadays is to hire regional sales people from a certain area and give them the assignment of encompassing all the cities or states in their neighborhood.

People with jobs that require travel making drive a company’s car since the employer usually covers the transportation costs, plus, the same payment policy is applied to all the business trip expenses as well as to the eventual hotel fees if the trip involves staying over night.

Regional management positions are other jobs that require travel availability: thus, the managers of restaurant and retail chains have to travel from one state to another and address the local business issues. The reporting scheme is pyramidal, meaning that the store or restaurant manager reports to the regional manager who in turn files a report to the next executive level.

Some jobs that require travel availability go beyond state borders, such assignments commonly extend to the national or even the international scale. Trainers and recruiters, software installers, public speakers, journalists and reporters as well as other professional groups need to target diverse customer categories that are not defined by regional boundaries.

Before you start looking for jobs that require travel, consider a self-evaluation to answer a legitimate question: are you suitable for such a position?

Some people have had the surprise to discover that life on the road was not what they expected from their occupation, but they didn’t imagine all the implications when they sought for such a form of employment.

In other cases, trips for business purposes turn out to be a very invigorating experience even if the reality of the business deals is less exciting and glamorous than expected. A career assessment test could help one find out whether he or she is good for jobs that require travel availability. Good luck!

How Do You Feel About Social Work Agencies

When I went to law school the politically conservative students called me the social worker because of my relative conservative beliefs. They would mutter from the back of the class when I was discussing a legal case I thought would be better decided by society rather than the strict rule of law that I should become a lawyer for social work agencies.

I am not a liberal in the normal sense of the word. Whatever is a normal liberal these days that it. I did have minor in sociology however as an undergrad. So I do know the concept of social work.

If you want to know what conservatives think of when they think of social workers, go back to some of the films of the fifty’s and sixties. Remember the movie with Marlon Brando who rides around on his motorcycle disrupting the normal way of life of each town he passes through. There is always a young attractive woman who knows the rebel is simply misunderstood by the rest of society. In fact society is why he is a rebel. Society has made him this way. And she is going to help him overcome all the wrong and injustice society has done to the rebel.

Conservatives have two words for the rebel; self responsibility. If you break the law the conservative says it is your fault. If you do not have a job conservative say it is your fault. If you do not have an education, the conservative will say it is your fault.

But the social worker, or at least those with degrees in sociology will say that a person who is raised for instance in the ghetto in a one parent family living in a neighborhood filled with illegal activity like illegal drug dealing, illegal gambling, and prostitution has many disadvantages compared to a person raised in an upper class family with two parents living in a nice home on a street unfamiliar to crime.

I have worked in the ghetto as a salesman. I have worked as a salesman in some rich communities. I know this, if I had my choice of areas to grow up, I would choose the rich side of town. No matter how smart a child is or how driven he is to work his way out of the ghetto, the child in the rich area simply has more advantages. Even if you simply count not being harassed by drug dealers or approached by prostitutes on the way to school an advantage.

I do believe in self responsibility though. If you choose a life of crime no matter what side of the city you live in, it is your choice and you cannot blame anyone else. But social workers are insulted when they are referred to as bleeding heart liberals by conservatives or anyone who does not think they serve a valuable role in our society.

But there are several children residing in a crime filled jungle of depression and disillusion. Many want out. They do not want to hear about their environment and they do not need others to feel sorry for them. They simply want someone to lend them a hand so they can pull themselves up. And that is where social work agencies can help.
